With more than 46 million inhabitants, Spain is the sixth biggest country in Europe by population, with 98% 4G population coverage.
The increasing shift to 5G services will only serve to speed up and enhance the digital transformation of the country’s key economic driver, tourism. Our top-tier customer, Vodafone, was the first operator to launch a 5G network (in June 2019), with other operators waiting until after the 700MHz auction, which was delayed due to the coronavirus outbreak.
This more general shift to 5G is enabled in part by the next generation network sharing agreements already in place. These agreements enable not only more efficient use of resources and land, but have allowed for increased, high-quality and reliable coverage and capacity for more end-users across the country.

Our recent successes
We signed a partnership agreement with LineoX, owner of the largest wholesale network of radio links in Spain. The agreement involves the assignment of spaces in our telecommunications infrastructure to provide our current and future customers with better connectivity. For a period of at least eight years, LineoX will install, maintain, conserve, repair, and renew its electronic communications equipment and associated elements – in the ceded infrastructures – to provide its services to third parties.
Our excellent network of independent telecommunication towers is available to all connectivity service providers and network operators. This allows us to meet the coverage and capacity needs of connectivity providers in urban and rural populations – thanks to our 8,700 sites.
According to Ana Díaz Cayetano, Vantage Towers' Commercial Director in Western Europe, this agreement supports our future growth plans with large customers. It also allows us to extend our telecommunications infrastructure and other services that we have already been offering to operators.
We signed an agreement with MásMóvil to promote the deployment of 5G networks throughout Spain. The objective of this collaboration is to improve digitalisation and reduce the digital divide in rural areas - one of our fundamental pillars.
Thanks to this agreement, MásMóvil will make use of our infrastructure to extend the deployment of 5G technology to more geographical locations.
With the rise of remote working, bringing technology and connectivity to all parts of the country has become imperative. This makes it easier for everyone - especially digital nomads - to live anywhere, even in areas that otherwise would not have been considered. Therefore, this agreement is a great step towards offering connectivity to rural areas.
Blanca Ceña, General Manager of Vantage Towers in Spain emphasised the importance of this partnership with MásMóvil as a vital step in offering high-quality 5G connectivity to the greatest number of people, whether they live in urban or rural environments.
